We are dedicated to helping athletes develop skills that match their age and ability. Our experienced coaches use cutting-edge techniques from the US Ski and Snowboard Association and the Professional Ski Instructors of America to enhance racing skills and strategies. By fostering a safe, enjoyable, and effective resort-based learning environment at Mad River, we empower junior racers to thrive in a variety of conditions and race courses.
Each program is designed to offer a clear progression of skill development tailored to the athlete’s current abilities. Training focuses on key areas such as free skiing, balance drills, mastering turn shapes, and gate drills, ensuring a comprehensive approach to improving performance.
Junior Development Program
The Junior Development Program offers an engaging and dynamic introduction to racing. Our coaches use the latest techniques from the US Ski and Snowboard Association and Professional Ski Instructors to guide the students through their journey. Starting with foundational skills and drills outside the gates, athletes progress to in-gate training.
- Who: Ages 6-8; All Abilities
- What: 4 Hour Group Ski Program; 2 Hour Wednesday Add-on Training Available
- All participants must have a valid Lift Ticket or Season Pass.
- When: Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm, Wednesday Add on 6:00pm – 8:00pm
- Sundays: 1/4, 1/11, 1/25, 2/1, 2/22, 3/1
- Wednesday Add-On: 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25
Junior Racing Program
The Junior Racing Program offers an exciting and engaging experience tailored for competitive-minded athletes. Our expert coaches apply advanced methods from the US Ski and Snowboard Association and the Professional Ski Instructors of America to refine essential skills such as balance, pressure, control, rotary movements, and edging.
- Who: Ages 6-8; All Abilities
- What: 4 Hour Group Ski Program; 2 Hour Wednesday Add-on Training Available
- All participants must have a valid Lift Ticket or Season Pass.
- When: Sundays from 9:00am – 1:00pm, Wednesday Add on 6:00pm – 8:00pm
- Sundays: 1/4, 1/11, 1/25, 2/1, 2/22, 3/1
- Wednesday Add-On: 1/7, 1/14, 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25
Elite Gates
NEW FOR THE 2025-2026 SEASON!!
Elite Gates is a great opportunity for racers of all skill levels to train in gates. This 6-week program offers multiple laps of gate time to allow a racer to work on their technique. Whether you are new to racing, or looking to refine your skis for weekly NASTAR or other racing events, this training session is for you.
- Who: Ages 8+, All Abilities
- What: 2 Hour Session, running gates with limited coaching available
- Choose from Jr (Ages 8-18) or Adult (Ages 18+)
- All participants must have a valid Lift Ticket or Season Pass.
- When: Tuesday 6pm to 8pm
- Tuesdays: 1/13, 1/20, 1/27, 2/3, 2/10, 2/17
- Where: Mad River Mountain
Nastar Racing
NASTAR stands for NAtional STAndard Race and is the largest public grassroots ski racing program in the world. Founded in 1968, NASTAR gives recreational racers an opportunity to compete and compare their scores to friends and family regardless of when and where they race using the NASTAR handicap system.
NASTAR racing is open to the public. You can register to race at the resort Guest Services Desk.
- Who: Ages 6+; All Abilities
- What: 2 Hour Session
- All participants must have a valid Lift Ticket or Season Pass.
- When: Sundays 12:00pm – 2:00pm, on Holiday Weekends 10am to 12:00pm
- Sundays: Starting 1/11 (Conditions permitting)
- Where: Mad River Mountain
Mad River Open Race
A two-day event of spirited competition over multiple events. This traditional race is open to all ages. Joins for two days of races of different disciplines from Slalom, Giant Slalom, and even a Super Giant Slalom.
- Who: Ages 6+; All Abilities
- What: 2 Day Race Event (Single Day available)
