Mad River Mountain is home to the most freestyle terrain parks in Ohio as well as the #1 Midwest Terrain Park - Captial Park - 4 years running as voted upon by OntheSnow.com readers. Owned and operated by Peak Resorts, Mad River Mountain hails from a pedigree of freestyle terrain builders like those responsible for the mecca that is Carinthia Parks (Mount Snow, VT) and is dedicated to providing onlythe best jibs, jumps, and freestyle features in the industry. Our four terrain parks Momentum, the Louie Vito Learning Park, Capital Park, and the new for 2014/2015 Kicker Lane progress in size and offer the perfect place to grow your skills!
Located on the green beginner trail Deer Run (on the Eastern most part of Mad River Mountain), Momentum is the park for the little guys and girls out there or those just thinking about hitting a freestyle feature for the first time. Momentum is home to super small features designed to get a skier/snowboarder used to the motion of being on a rail or box, the feeling of being in the air off a small jump and the confidence to move on after mastering their "Momentum".
While Momentum park doesn't span the entire trail, it is a very popular park and a great way to work on just getting off the ground. The Momentum Triple Chair is located at the bottom of Deer Run making this park perfect to lap constantly until you "get it"!
So go get after it and have some fun. Once you master Momentum you'll move to the opposite side of the resort and play with the big boys.
The Louie Vito Learning Park was built for those aspiring to continue progressing their freestyle skills and eventually reach the ranks of its namesake and Olympic athlete Louie Vito.
The LVLP is located to lookers right or skiers left of the Flight Deck Double Chair lift on the most westerly part of our resort and has a completely different style than its neighbor Capital Park. The LVLP was designed with the beginner in mind and features mostly boxes and jumps. The features in the LVLP are smaller than most in Capital Park and are designed in two specific lines to introduce spanning jump lines. LVLP also has specific areas for skiers and snowboarders to line up for the jumps/boxes so you can practice good etiquette in park riding. Most boxes are between 8' & 12' long and jumps are around 15' - 20' in length.
The Louie Vito Learning Park is also home to a fun hikeable park at the very bottom for quick and easy learning.
With the Flight Deck Double Chair located at the bottom of the Louie Vito Learning Park, skiers and snowboarders easily can make "hot laps" over and over until they nail that 360 or nose grab.
The Jumpline located on Sugarbush skiers left has found a new home and new name. Kicker Lane is now its own trail and features its own lights. This trail will feature two tabletop style jumps with two take-offs that are 30' in length or more. At the end of the season, Kicker will also play host to our annual Slopestyle event in which multiple rail features are also added to this park for a fun competition featuring cash purses and prizes from our sponsors.
Capital Park is Mad River Mountain's Signature Park and has been named the #1 Park in the Midwest for four years by OnTheSnow.com.
Capital Park flows from top to bottom with rails, jumps, and jibs ranging from the medium to large sizes. The top section of the park tends to feature jumps along the skiers right of the park with rails running down skiers left. Mid-park at the turn you will usually find features like our 15' rainbow rail, a hip jump feature, and others. Along the lower park you can find the Deck Rail and more jumps that tend to be on the 20' size.
Easily Ohio's largest terrain park, Capital Park is usually home to 30+ features by mid-January and hosts tons of activity every week. Our parks department works to maintain and keep our park fresh with new features as much as possible.
