What: Our Final Decade Weekend of the Season Celebrating The 80's

POND SKIMMING 12pm - 2pm: This event has become one of the most highly anticipated shows of the season. Skiers and riders attempt to navigate their way across a pond ranging from 100-125' depending on the amount of snow available at the base fo the slope. Speeds of near 40 mph are required to make it the entire way across. When they don't make it... Yes you guessed it, they go down with quite a splash. Participaion is free and open to everyone. NEW FOR 2012 - DRESS IN YOUR 80's BEST COSTUME.  MAKE IT ACROSS OUR POND AND YOU COULD WALK AWAY WITH A 12/13 MAD RIVER SEASON PASS!   

CARDBOARD SLED RACE 2pm - 4pm: Just like the pond skim, this is a spectator's must see. Our crew will create a special course for the homemade sleds designed to test the durability of each riders creation. This event is open to the public and all are encouraged to participate. This is where you get to be creative. You can paint, decorate and embellish your sled however you wish, the only requirement is you can only use cardboard, duct tape, zip ties and string to build the structure. The cardboard sled race is presented by our friends at 99.7 the Blitz, be sure to stay tuned to the station for special event promotions.  Prizes include:

BEST OVERALL SLED - $500 IN CASH! 
This will be the judges choice of use of cardboard, duct tape and zip ties while also creating a truly unique sled design along with costumes to accompany the theme of the sled.

BEST YUENGLING BRANDED SLED - $300 IN CASH!
This winning sled will need to utilize Yuengling Branded cardboard, pieces of flare, etc to showcase America's Oldest Brewery and Ohio's newest beer selection in grand style.

BEST SLIDER - $200 IN CASH! 
This sled not only must be well designed but it must slide fast and far!  This will be a judges choice based on speed and design.  So you must master both. 

BEST KIDS ENTRY - A FREE TUBING PARTY IN 2012/2013 SEASON!
This category is for our juinors only.  It is open to kids 12 and under.  Parents may help in the build process but may be in the sled with the kids! 

BEST EMPLOYEE ENTRY - A WHOLE TON OF GOODIES FROM THE GM
The GM and his wife have been hiding some goodies including gift certificates to restaurants in our area, movie tickets and more.  We expect good things from our talented employees! 

Can you win multiple categories.  You betcha!  Good Luck.  Remember use cardboard, duct tape and zipties are required in your sled and must be the main driving pieces of the sliding surface.  Wood, plastic, and other materials may not be used.  Pieces of flare, balloons, paint and things to make your sled as cool as the Batmobile, General Lee, A-Team Van and Scooby Doo's Mystery Machine are all welcome and encouraged!! 

Psst remember it's the 80s weeekend so if you focus in on that maybe you'll get a edge up on the competition! 

LIVE ENTERTAINMENT 2pm-11pm: Live Entertainment will begin at 2pm with the Winterfest crowd favorite Katty Whomp-Us. We had so many requests to bring them back, we decided to have them help close out the seasons music. The Ark Band has become a staple at our spring events. At 7pm, Terry and the gang will close out our 50th season's event schedule with their rhythmic classics mixed with a collection of hits from the Eighties.

GAPER DAY: No 80's event is complete without a day designated to the mountain folk dressing the part. Most avid riders know the term well. A Gaper pronounced "Gape-ur" is a term dubbed for skiers and riders that show up at the slopes for the first time in a while with gear that hasn't seen the light of day in decades. Usually day glow onesies, all pink coats, chartreuse pants, you know, the stuff that gets you noticed. If you are looking to be noticed too, you had better start hitting the Thrift Stores before the best selection is gone.
